a journey for life time
.............to an unknown destination

the family and the village

Though the incidents made her sad she knew that she can correct all that. She didn't tell anybody about her mission but she had planned that all well and knew how to play her cards....At about 5am they reached hasini's village....Though it was dark hasi could clearly remember the way.....it was the same nothing changed...but when she entered the village border some of the houses were which were small cottages that time became big two storeyed buildings....The village looked both rich and poor.....some houses were big and some were still cottages....She remembered her place....but there was nothing but a big godown...she was confused...Then someone recognised her "my child..hasi...is that you???...oh no!...how thin u have become..."...Hasi also recognised her as her good old maid...she smiled at her...Then the old woman stared at dimple, payal and Ajay....Hasi began to laugh and looked at all the three of them...."arey dadi....these are my friends "....and she introduced her to them...They also smiled at her...then Hasini inquired about her home which was earlier there...Dadi became sad and she began to narrate all that happened after she left that place....According to her...after hasi went away....though there was a big commotion of her running away...it all became normal in two days and nobody bothered about her except her mother...Her father and her brother became addicted to that black market business that they even stopped their usual milk business....Most of the people here became a part of that....Many people came there and took some signatures or thumb impressions and gave some boxes....most of the houses had these boxes....Then came a day when some of the men of that company came and told that all of them should vacate their houses as they had been written to them by the owners.....Hasini's father was also among the big men...All of them who helped those black suit men lost everything....Now the village has been divided into two...all of them who had lost their assets lived on the other side of the village and it was a fact that the village head, the political leader and some others are involved in this...so though everyone knew who are the reason for this no one did anything because of the money power and man power of those men....Now recently it has been declared by the govt. that there will be big biotech lab in this area as the villagers have sold their property for a fair amount to the company.....All the three of them looked at each other...Ajay was dumbstruck...what he came for was different and here was another problem which was not that easy to solve....Hasini was also thinking the same thing....As they were thinking of this...they came to a small thatched house with some buffalo in the shed.....She looked dumbstruck at her mother!!!!

The past breeze

Though she remained silent she thought of the incidents that happened before....It was a normal day there in the village. As usual Hasi completed her petty chores in her home and was getting ready for school. Hasi's father, a middle aged person , came home and said"From today you'll not be going to school. I've got a proposal for you and you'll be getting married in a month from now...",...so he said and went away. She was just 16 years old then. She knew she'll be facing this situation and she was counting the days and lo! here was the day. Naturally she felt like crying and went to her mother....who was bedridden because of stomach ulcer. Hasi cried and cried but she can do nothing...she thought...why is this happening to her. She looked at her mother. Hasini clearly understood her mothers feelings though she doesn't say anything. She loved her mother very much. She knew the way her mother protected and defended her till today cos all her friends got married at an young ge but she was not just because of her mother. But now nobody can do anyhing. Nothing reached her mind...what can she do now. She again looked at her mother. This time she understood what her mother was trying to say....She decided...'yes, i should go away from here...from this hell...this insane persons...i should study...i cannot leave my life another insane and make my mother unhappy. It's better to be far away and make her feel satisfied that i'm alive,'....Thus she decided and set out. she looked one last look at her mother and devised a plan. That was a very cold night. The village was very quiet and Then hasi got up. She ran as fast as she could to the nearby forest. Imagine a 16 yr old girl in a forest alone at a dreary night. But she has to. She already knew where to go. She got all the information about the same christian missionary in their village which was present in the city. She was standing at the bus stop. She suddenly saw some figure nearing her. She was panic stricken...It neared her more and it was near a touchable position. It was none but her close friend Rinku....She also wanted to run along with Hasini. Both of them felt safe and happy for their future. Bus came and they sat side by side. The bus only went a few yards when the bus was stopped....Rinku who was by the window...peeped out...She looked a group of men and among them her father. She didn't want to go but if she doesn't then they'll find both of them. She acted and decided fast. She stood up..Hasi looked at her"Good bye, hasi...take care of yourself and never come back here again. Our lives have been toiled and tortured...if at all you come back...i'll not be there to see cos i can't live here as a slave....Good bye forever dear..." She went away without even looking back at Hasi and the bus moved on. She can hear her cries...but the bus moved. After that Hasi never got any information about her village and now after 3 long years she's going there....on a mission which nobody knows....

The journey & the past....

After reading the ad......Hasini decided to go to her village. Payal became tensed and called Dimple. So all them talked about it and decided to go there. As Payal has to seek permission from her dad...she asked Gowri to talk as her lecturer and thereby all of them can go. Gowri aunty said that it's not good to tell lies and so she went and asked Payal's father and explained the situation to him. "Please uncle, i need payal's help and support...the more people with me the more i can talk back and the more i'll be safe,"...He thought for sometime and agreed and said..."It's ok...but when i ak for a help...will u girls help me????",...without another thought they said yes chorously and packed things. They got into the bus at night. When they setteld they were approached by someone....it was Ajay!!!! Dimple was happy inside but showed nothing and looked as if surprised along with others.... "Hey...what are you ppl doing here??,"..."That's the question we shd ask Ajay...what are you doing in the bus???"....."I'm going to a village near Adilabad which is situated at the border of Orissa and A.p.....got to deal a case there...where are you ppl going????..its odd time...that too the trio got going....to a proposal????"....he winked at Dimple...she ignored him...But nobody answered him. He understood the situation and sat behind them....He had a file with him....He started reading it...Unexpectedly Hasini looked at it and she was shocked to see the photo of Chameli!!!!! "Its chameli rite???? What happened to her??? Why do u have that photo with you????Plz tell me...i wanna know....plz...."...He looked surprised at her but suppressed it and asked "Sorry Hasini...it's confidential...but as i said a case...this girl is missing for about three months....Nobody knew about her...but how do you know her???? Seriously, what are you girls upto.....Do you know the village???i heard that the ppl there are not humans....they do anything for money....but how come u ppl know them?????tell me girls...tell me...it may be useful for my case.." All of them looked at each others faces...Slowly hasini started.."You know the village...as you told it's situated at the border of the two states....so people there are mixed group....My grandma said that all people here were a mixture of ancient rajputras and so all of them formed a sall village for themselves. They called themselves as brahmins and lived like that. But people there have been tortured for years as low cast...and so our ancestors came to a conclusion that money is the only way to get name.....so they started earning money....but money by fair means came slow....as the land was not much fertile they didn't get that much money. How it all started nobody knew but all of them got involved in blackmarket...i hate that place....women there are supressed like anything...not a single girl was literate...but when i was 7 years old a christian missionary came to my village....they somehow convinced the people and so we girls were also made to study....but most of them were married at the age of 12 or 13....there ended their life....but....but....that day....three years ago..."...she stopped telling and closed her eyes..."What happened...tell me...i can't figure out anything..." Dimple looked at him as if to be silent. He kept silent and Hasini started to look out of the window..."How can i say what happened...how can i say that i lost my best friend for my life...."....tears rolled down her eyes....Incidents happened as if they happened just days ago....the day which changed her thinking...which made her to protest her villagers fo her education.

An ad for hasini....

After all that uneasiness the before day....Dimple went to the clg the next day and met Sister Nivya for visiting the remaining charity homes run by the clg. So she was busy and Hasini was feeling something odd and slept late.... "wake up idiot!!!! You are a girl...mind that...not a boy...sleeping like a princess....who will do all the work...get up...."..he kicked her hard....She got up with a start...there was no one there...It was a dream...horrible dream....a dream which was in its true form months ago....she ran away from that.....just for the love of her studies....she never wanna go back...no...not in her life again....she is happy here...but she misses her mom very much. All these thoughts made her even more unhappy. Just then came payal and Gowri..."Good morning...Miss.Cutie princess!!!! woke up at last????come on get ready...we'll be going to college and from there to movie along with Dimp.....get up u lazy bug!!!!".....she went to the bed to wake her up but saw her weeping terribly...."hey..bunny!!!what happened dear....what's this...why are u crying???? are u feeling well????any problem???"..she said nothing...Gowri understood somethig but was not very sure if thats the problem. So she gestured payal to leave her and come with her. Payal begged bunny to get up and atlast won in that and so hasi went for a wash to feel better. "I think she's thinking of her family..." Gowri said. Payal became red with anger.."Is that a family u call....hasi hates them i know that but she misses her mother very much...we can't deny that...it's not the same aunty...her family..." she stopped talking and thought of the incidents which seemed to happen just days ago. She can never forget that....my god!!!she thought...Just the time hasi came...see looked at payal...then smiled at herself...."I'm sorry payal...it was a dream...which i'm unable to forget...a passed truth which haunts me now....I miss my mom payal...i don't know how she's now....i want to see her but am terribly afraid to go there....but i shold go.."...Payal and Gowri looked at her horrified...."what do u think idiot...u know what will happen if u go there....they'll again do the same...what a community fanatists they are....ur father and that villagers....my god...they're not humans...totally heartless humans.....",...when they were talking like this....Gowri shouted..."hey,look at the paper...its hasi's photo and she read out aloud..."Dear hasi...we're sorry for all that happened. plz forgive us...mom is serious..please come home and look at her...we'll not force u for anything now...urs lovingly...father and brother.... Hasi looked and read it about 50 times...whats this??? This can't be true...she cried terribly....what will she do now????

The compromise and the friendship

Dimple sat staring at him. She cannot do anything now but to accept the fact. She sighed and said,"that was brilliant...but even though you meet her this marraige is not going to happen cos there are some personal matters which made us take this...ahem...not so foolish plan...but you can definitely meet her, but its her wish to tell u the reason for declining the proposal. okie...lets go to their table...."..She stood up. There payal was tensed...so when she saw them stand up...she heaved a sign of relief but again got tensed as they approached her. "Its okie ladies....i understand the thing that you are not interested but Miss. payal...you could have directly told me that. Why did devise this plan....Do i look like villian to u???"...."No...not like that but...mmmm...i was a bit afraid and dad told me that u didn't see me....so..."....she smiled a bit and continued.."Sorry Mr. Ajay, we shouldn't have done this. But i'm sorry as i cannot disclose you the reason why i'm declining this proposal...its a bit personal...thats all"....."OK...if its personal but if at all you are afraid that i'm going to tell your dad all this...then u are at the wrong side. I can manage it....so leave it and lets have a small get together....lets be friends....and am privileged to have three beautiful ladies as my guests here....forget everything.....shall we????".....All of them smiled and ordered what they want and started chitchatting. Ajay told them of his profession and they started eating when they were served what they wanted. "Can i ask u a question????", without waiting for his reply she continued,"Why did u dashed me that day in the shopping mall???"....."Ohh...that day....it was not me...but the person whom i was chasing who was a child kidnapper....i lost him that day...leave it.."...Dimple felt embrassed and asked excuse to go and wash her hands.....This was enough for her today. She was totally down that day and talked less. After sometime they left. Hasini chattered about it all the way. But Dimple was thinking of someother thing. She got some interest in him. "What is that feeling that she got when he saw her.....But she threw the thought saying to herself..."nothing just a feeling of guilt...leave it dimp....You are sliding off your track....don't believe guys...",...But little did she know that there were many feelings she had to get to fall in love with him!!!!

Surprises...again & again!!!!

According to the plan devised by Dimple, Both payal and Hasi went inside the restaurant and sat at a dark place. Dimple also went inside the restaurant and sat at reserved table. After about 10 minutes, a guy in full-suit came inside and passed across payal's table and said, "ahem....Miss. payal khanna???,".....Dimple lifted her head to answer him and looked shocked at him. It was the same guy whom she met at the shopping mall that day. He was also in the same position seeing her. He relieved first and said," hai, I'm Ajay.....Ajay khanna. I'm the person whom your father selected!!!"....Dimple answered..."yes, yes....I'm Payal khanna...Do u have any doubt in that????,"...."No,no Miss.payal, I asked just for a clarification. Ok shall we order something????"....He called the barer "what shall we have??? I'll be priveleged if u order."...."No,no Mr.Ajay, You can order, I've no objection."...."OK, fine. we shall have vegetable soup and....",...."No,no....i hate soup...u can have it,"...."OK, shall we have rice and fish fry????,"...."No...no i hate fish..order something like prawn...ok??? U don't have any problem rite???"...He looked at her somewhat surprised. " You're sure that you can eat prawn???..."Yes, i eat it almost everyday...y.. don't u like it Mr.Ajay????,"....He ordered prawn and the like and looked at her. Dimple was looking somewhere behind him. "Are waiting for someone....think u are a bit uneasy....ok tell me about ur hobbies...,".....Without thinking she said,"I've no hobbies and anything like them..."...."Is that so???? but ur father said that u like singing and dancing???"..."ahem....ohh...ya..ya..i forgot...i like both of them and i likekarate also. I've a black belt in karate,"...He moved uneasily and said"very fine...fine..."...There was silence for sometime and then the barer came and served their food. Dimple had never eaten prawn before...she didn't know what to do. "Any problem??? tell me Miss. khanna,"...."Nothing, but i don't feel like eating...i'm sorry....and i should leave by now...dad will be waiting....," saying she was about to leave...when he said,"Just a minute ma'am....May i know ur name please Miss acting khanna...." Dimple looked shocked and said..."What are u asking...ha ha..think u know my name...well u forgot and i'm payal khanna....ahem...not acting ...," She went red....He said,"Miss....I can surely say that you're not payal because i came here before payal came to the restaurant. May be i didn't see her. But i know her father right and another thing when i saw her she was wearing a pink salwaar kameez but not jeans and casuals....now...may i know where payal khanna is???? and why you and your friend devised this plan????".....Dimple was speechless....what could she say now. She was fully red with shame didn't say anything. Then he continued..." U see Miss. I'm a detective by profession and i meet different kinds of people in my profession. So its easy for me to find out who's who...Sorry if i had hurt you..."

Girls get into a problem

Dimple slept really sound that day. She was really unable to believe. Even in her dreams she thought about the day's incidents. Nextday, Hasini and Dimple went to clg. They called payal, but as some relatives were visiting their home, she was unable to come. So they first went to the children's home which was situated at a far away place from the clg. The building was some what old but clean. There were only few children who were in the home. But she heard that there were about 60 children in the home. She enquired about that and she was told that some of them are working part time and some of them went to schools. She got a doubt and was about to ask the clerk there, when the head of the home...Mrs.Uma shankar, a plump, dark lady who looked older than her age came to them and invited them. "Good morning madam, I'm the college's representative and i came here for the overview of the place."....She looked somewhat surprised at Dimple,"Where's Diya.....did she not participate in the poll???,"...."pardon me ma'am, but i have won the poll conducted yesterday and i'm here before you and as for Diya, she is my assistant i mean, assistant representative...I think u understand well ma'am."...."Now can u clear to some of my doubts about the children ma'am and....."...Dimple stopped talking coz before asking anything she went away without even a look at her and the the clerk also followed her. "What's happening here bunny. how can she go away like that. She didn't even have concern to ask excuse. I'm afraid bunny, something's happening here. Sister Nivya said that there are about 50-60 children here. But what i see here are only 15-20,...i should not leave this here....,".....She was about to go to the office when bunny stopped her..."No,dimp....keep cool, coz what the clerk said may be the truth and we are here for the first time and we should see the remaining places also. Keep that in mind....okay....we'll tell about this to sister Nivya and take further decision...now let's go...leave her."....Dimple cooled down and went to the old age home. It was afternoon by now and they were hungry but Dimp couldn't digest anything. So she little and they went to the old age home. All was well there and she introduced herself to the secretary there and took a look of the place. It was pleasant there and she forget the morning incident talking to the old people there. There were only few of them but they looked happy. It was about 4pm when they reached their room. Dimple thought of calling Sister Nivya but thought it would be better if she met her tomorrow. So she layed down on the sofa and was thinking of something when her cell rang. It was nearing six and she lifted the call. It was Payal,"hey payal, surprise u called me at this time....what's the matter???", "Dimp, can u come out now. I should talk with you....please its urgent....I'm in trouble.come fast to the place i tell." She told the place. Dimp started along with bunny. They reached the place, it was a restaurant and payal was waiting there. They waved at payal and Dimp parked the bike and came almost running to her."Hey payal, what happened yaar???? why did call us and why are u here???? any problem????" "I told u that there will be visitors today.....they were not visitors but my father arranged a get-together with a family. He asked me to get ready in the evening. In the car, he said that the son of the aunty who came morning will meet me with a marraige proposal. I cried and even begged him to not to do this. But he didn't listen to me and told that they're such a good family and it's his prestige issue for him. The guy will be coming to the restaurant now and would meet me it seems. You know the reason why i'm not accepting this proposal girls, plz help me....what should i do now....He'll be here at any minute...dad told that he's a police officer....i'munable to decide anything.....".....Dimple looked at bunny's face. All the three were in the same situation. "Okay, I've decided what to do.....let's chase him away....and he'll never again look u....okay...now be cool", "Hey dimp, what's the plan yaar???"..."Nothing just do what i say!!!!!!"

the result---the problem

It was the college watchman who came running to the dias. Mother read the paper and smiled. All students became suspicious because the same thing happened last year and Diya was elected. Dimple looked at diya, she was gleaming and her friends already were congratulating her. "what's all this??? why are they congratulating her. The results were not announced yet.."exclaimed hasini. Mother again started her speech,"Maintain silence my dear students. Now I'm going to announce the representative of our college. Before that let me tell u something. A representative is a person who represents this college. As u already know we have many firms apart from this college. Apart this clg, we have children's home, girl's hostel and free school and hostel for poor children. So a representative should look after all these and should manage them correctly. They should have courage, capability and confidence for this....,she looked at all the students once and continued,"As u already know I'm new to the clg, u may not know much about my qualities. So let me first tell u who won. It's none other than Miss.Dimple batra....". There was a round of applause and Dimple almost fell down. She could n't believe her ears. "come on to the dias my child...",...Dimple went to the dias, not forgetting to look at Diya's face. Diya didn't understand what was happening. How can this happen. On the dias, mother congratulated Dimple and gave 'representative badge'. "I also invite Diya mehta on to the dias and she's going to be the 'assistant representative' who works under the control of the representative. I hope both of you be friendly with each other. A happy news for the students is that the remaining two days are declared as holidays and the clg will commence from Monday. Now all of u can go home. God bless you all. omen." All the students slowly left the seminar hall. As both Dimple and Diya were told to wait they remained at the dias itself along with their friends. Then mother called Diya to the office room and went away. Dimple was told to go with sister Nivya to know the responsibilities she should hold. Diya went to the office room and came about after half an hour. Her face was red with anger. Without talking to anyone she went away. Sister Nivya explained everything about the college's deeds and her responsibilities as a representative. She was told to attend the college the next two days to see all the other firms that maintained by the college. After that Dimple along with payal and Hasini went to their room. As it was just 3pm payal also accompanied them to their room. Their they ordered pizzas from Domino's and as usual it arrived in half an hour. Hasini talked non-stop and was laughed imagining the face of Diya. Then payal went away. As Gowri went to the nearby store, they started discussing about microbiology, one of the papers they have in their course. Then Gowri came, Dimple almost ran to her and hugged her tightly. She said,"I did it peddi, Idid it. I won just because of ur blessings." Gowri felt happy,"I know it my child.I know it." 'I know it, its in your blood my child. You are not a normal girl',Gowri told to herself and she too hugged her tightly. While preparing for the dinner bunny told clearly what happened. At last she said,"but i don't understand one thing aunty.....what was in that paper which made princi mother decide the results immediately????.....

The college election

The next day there was a meeting in the seminar hall. The gist of it was that there will be a poll the next thursday for the "students representative" post in the clg. So the students are invited to apply for it on their interest. "Why don't u apply for that dimp....u've been the SPL of your school na...try out, it may work for u,"..."No payal, i have no interest and moreover the semester exams are fast approaching and i've not yet started studying"....."yes yaar, a representative sh'd work hard and moreover it is a stressful job....okay, okay...lets go to the class,"....Diya, their senior who was the ex-student representative of the clg heard their discussion....she suddenly interrupted"what u little brat...are u not applying for the post....oh yes, i forgot...that needs a lot of patience and that too only daring girls can do that....rite...you can't...i know that...bye coward!!!",....Dimp was about to say something, when Hasi cooled her and replied,"she is applying for that and mind you,she will be the next representative....be ready to face her.....come on,lets go...". Payal smiled at her and went away. Diya was speechless and stared at them as they left the place. "Hey, that was a bold answer but do u really feel that i should apply for it????..am getting confused yaar, i don't know what to do...help me na"..."U said that you're not going to apply but why this change now???...", asked payal. "No payal, she should accept and apply for that and see you know she has good leadership qualities and that too you heard what that diya said....coward...never will i forgive her for that....she should know our caliber....rite girls????,"..."Both of them looked astonishingly at hasi,.."Hey hasi, when did you become so bold yaar,i can't believe this....think there will be a storm!!!.."I thought u were a small child bunny....but u proved it wrong...my god bunny...u're amazing.."..."stop it girls, don't make me feel shy...i was unable to control myself when she talked like that....that's all...okay,now lets go and apply"..So after their classes they went to the office room and Dimp applied for the post...Sister Nivya who liked them appreciated her for her confidence'"You can ask me anyhelp...but first of all u should publicize urself among the students....okay....be careful...u don't know what diya is...she'll do anything to win...take care"....At their palace(room), dimp said the days happenings to gowri and seeked her advice..."I don't say that u should not apply for that...but keep in mind one thing don't apply just to win but u should be a real representative and help the students solve their problems....u know what u are and keep in mind ur ma'am's words....now go to bed my princess...be bold"...Dimp went to her room and retired to bed. Next day they prepared some banners that said "light the candle of knowledge...Vote for dimple and so..on....The list consisted of three students...Diya,Dimple and Chaya.....Now the count down started...there were 3 days for the poll....The students were given chance to conduct meetings and the like for publicity among students.....Dimple was helped by many students and some lecturers, All of them who hated Diya and who faced problems from her supported Dimple. Chaya because of some reasons requested to remove her name from the list. Dimple got suspicious but left the matter as she was busy with her meeting....No one knew what the result would be because both of them were supported by the students in equal numbers.......Then the big day arrived. Dimple took blessings from Gowri, Hasi prayed god and promised to give food to 100 people and what not!!!! The polling started...students started giving their votes. That was really a big news so as the clg was a famous one the local press people came for the poll coverage. The two competitors were made to sit in a room. Diya was all gleaming..."today, i'll show u the taste of failure u brat....from today u'll not even dare to talk to me....ha ha ha," she laughed hysterically. Not to say, Dimple also was afraid inside becos she was not that much confident. The polling ended and counting started. After about an hour, the results were about to be announced. All were waiting for the result in suspense. Though there was big crowd of girls, there was a pin-drop silence in the seminar hall. The principal, simply called 'mother', stood up to talk,"As a matter of fact i'm really surprised of the results....what to say but both of them got equal number of votes and now there's a tie in the results....so we've decided to consider the votes of the lecturers here. This starts in 10 minutes and.....", Suddenly something happened and mother stopped talking. Some one came running to the dias with a paper. The paper was given to the mother and she read its contents and decided the winner!!!!

Hasini's Birthday

Days rolled by in their new college and time went on without looking back....that's life. Dimple nearly fought with her seniors again to defend a junior girl. So she became the 'DEVIL GIRL' for the seniors and all of them hated her. Their gang began to gain name in the class and payal became favourite to all the teachers. Dimple began forget all her worries but hasi told payal about the phone call. After hearing the incident payal though decided to ask the reason waited for the right time to come. Meanwhile days were nearing for Hasini's birthday. One day after the college they decided to go for shopping for the upcoming grand day. Surprisingly payal also agreed cos her father was out of station but will come by 9pm that day. That was a great day for them. Hasini was the most happiest person and when they were selecting her the dress she was unable to decide what to choose , this was the first time she chose her dress herself....normally her mother would choose her everything and hasi also liked that. But now....."hey hasi....what happened dera....why are u sad???" "Nothing dimp,i thought about my mom....thats all...leave it...which one would suit me??? that maroon or that pink????....or shall i take a saree???" "Saree??? u idiot...how can u manage that....take a cargo and t-shirt....cool thing to wear...rite payal????" "Not at all....u funky girl....chudis are the best...take that bunny...ok now make it fast...we've to do more shopping...." After a long discussion, they selected a saree and a chudi...dimp made a wry face "no jeans????u tasteless...ok come down to the restaurant...i'll be waiting there....come fast...ok"...Dimp came out of the store and walked slowly downstairs....though there is a lift in the mall...she liked walking by herself...When she was walking someone suddenly rushed up dashing her down....Dimp fell down two steps below....the guy who dashed didn't stop but the one who followed him stopped and tried to help her...."enough...don't u have sense...is this a game centre...don't have any place toplay...What do u and ur friend think of urselves...i don't need anyhelp...u can go ur way...ok" saying she dashed away down stairs....The guy looked helplessly at her but suddenly thought of something and went upstairs....After some time both bunny and payal came and met dimp at the restaurant. Dimp shouted at them"waht took u this much????how long sh'd i wait for u???" "What happened dimp...y r u irritated so much????" "tell us what happened??? u don't look normal...tell us "...."nothing bunny...lets eat...am fine but just a small accident and i fell down....an idiot dashed me and went away...thats all"..."ok lets eat...hav ordered gobi fried rice, salad roti and palak paneer....all veg bunny just for u..."...They laughed and reached home....Then came the great day...Hasini's birthday....as it was sunday dimp planned many things....gowri blessed hasi and dimple hugged her telling her first wish"....They sighed that payal was not there..the door bell rang...gowri opened it...payal was standing there gleaming at them....she rushed to hasi and gave her a big her.....they looked at her surprisingly..."don't see like that...i just made a magic to my father and said that we've a lab exam today.....thats all...but i sh'd be there by 4...ok"...hmmm....it was hasini's habit to go an old age home on her birthday....So first they prepared food in the room itsel and all of them reached a nearby old age home....Hasi was happy that she was fulfilling her mothers wish...First she seeked the blessings of all the old people...All of them liked her...The secretary of the home...a young woman in her 30's started the home on her mothers wish and so named it INDIRA...after her mother....the surroundings were serene and pleasant....and there was big hall which is the dining hall....All the girls served the food to the old people there happily and helped them.....When it was about 2pm they took leave from all of them and went to the parking place.....A guy was parking his car there and came out of his car. Dimple looked at him irritatingly....Payal noticed it and asked..."do u know him, dimp?? looks handsome"..."shut up ...he's that idiot who dashed me that day....see how heartless he is...he left his parents in this old age home...lets go girlzz...come on"....After that they ate and played some indoor games and by 4pm payal left...after that dimp and bunny left to watch the film...lage raho munna bhai!!!!....They liked it very much and retired to bed....Hasi was happy and satisfied...but thought of her mother..."sorry mom...plz forgive me!!!!!"

The phone call

After the clg, dimp and hasi went to pizza hut but dimp refused to eat anything thinking about payal."hey dimp, we know about her father very well and how he constricts her in everything even in the dress she wears rite. Then how can we expect her to stay back and eat with us????" "Its not the thing bunny, but how long sh'd we face these problems in life.....i don't understand anything."......"cool down dimp, god is there....he's looking after us and he'll show us a way....OK"."No, hasi, if at all god is there y sh'd he give problems and then y sh'd he then remain silent leaving people to their own......". "Thats not the thing dimp and stop being a philosopher....OK now, be a good girl....lets reach our room or else gowri aunty will shout at us. So they reached their room. Their's is a double bedroom flat fully furnished and neat. None can find a speck there. This was the reason why they loved Gowri aunty. Gowri was a middle aged who lost her husband and had no children of her own. She lived with girls and did all the chores in the room (which dimple called palace) and cooking for them...this made their room a house. She looks after the girls like her own daughters and did whatever they asked for. They reached their palace and hasi went madly to the room and hugged gowri..."It was good day today but u know two things happened that i disliked.....one is that, this idiot fought on the first day itself with our seniors and second one she got upset again" said hasi showing dimp to her. U know what peddama (hasi calls gowri like this meaning 'aunty' in telugu) she started speaking like a philosopher and blames god for all....is it rite peddama......ask her... "Gowri went to dimp and asked"what is it child.....y do u feel upset and what is the answer u want from god"...Dimp again asked the same question which she asked hasini at the pizza centre.....Gowri reamined silent for a while.....Dimp stood up and said"i know peddama u can't answer this.....nobody can answer my question....mmmm????"......Gowri smiled and said "my child...problems are not which god gives but our own deeds make our life problomatic......see that ant there.....the small thing it carries is not a big thing for us but thats a problem to the ant.....like the same, the view in which u see a situation may look like a problem if not understood properly.....so before blaming god u sh'd know that if problems are not there we'll forget god and life becomes dull.....ok now go and freshen up...." "pedamma, i've a doubt...didn't u clean the house today.....why is the ant there andwhat is it stealing from our palace????"....demanded hasi......"u naughty girl....u make fun when i'm talking seriously....now go u've no food today....go"...."pedamma plz...plz...see my face...do i look naughty to u???....am i not ur pet my darling aunty".......said hasi keepin a child face....... Looking at hasi dimp started laughing and then all of them laughed. Then they went and washed their faces....."peddi....am hungry plz get me something....come on....plz"......."wait....just a second...i've done veg pizzas for u....get u some coffee...ok"..... When they were about to eat.....the phone rang.....Dimp went and lifted the receiver and asked who the caller was......She remained silent for sometime.....she didn't even budge a little....Her face began to turn red....She shouted"i hate u.....i hate u.....y do u disturb me like this.....i told u i don't want to meet.....u never keep ur promises.....I HATE U!!!!!".....she banged the receiver and fell down crying like anything....... Peddamma and bunny looked horrifired at her....they were dumb struck.....Peddi ran to dimp and caught hold of her...."why this happens to me peddi....y only me....nobody loves me....i hate her peddi....i hate her...."..."no child...u sh'd not say that.....we love u so much....everybody loves u.....now tell me what happened????"......Hasi ran to her....she hugged her..."tell us idiot....y do u always keep everything to urself.....open up dear....we'll help u"...... Dimp looked at hasi....."nobody can help me hasi.....its my fate....thats all.....". Dimp went to the bedroom and shut the door......She cried...cried and cried.....nobody disturbed her. After sometime bunny went into the room and saw Dimp sleeping like a child and beside her she also lied down.....She began to think of the situation again and started stroking dimp's hair.....she had never seen Dimp cry like this before.......What happened now!!!!

the first day at the college

After entering the college for their first time, they feel awe cos it really looked magnificent. The college has two building in two rows. Though it looked somewhat old it was clean and cool with greenery all over. As it a christian missionary college, and as it was especially for girls, its shortly called the "girls paradise", by the local people. Payal, dimple and hasini walked through the big asoka and eucalyptus trees and entered the enquiry office to know the way to their classroom. They were rushing to their class as it was already late and bell just rang. Suddenly they were stopped by some girls.....their seniors"hey, new girlzz ha??? what r ur names ladies???" asked one of them. Dimp got angry "sorry madam, its already late. please let us go. We'll certainly meet u at the canteen. Its our first day and we don't want to be late" "who says that u r not late haan??? u r the first girls we have got and how can we let u go that easily???". Payal interrupted"let us go madam. This is not fair and we are saying that we'll meet u at the canteen na.....or else we've to complaint to the pricipal." "hey!! What do u think of urselves haan...u'll complaint on me...is that so...ok go ahead madam...lets see who will be punished and see at urselves what do u come for to the clg for fashion show???" Enough is enough for dimp now...its too much...she's unable to control her"what do u think....be in ur limits madam....what if u r seniors....is it that u can say whatever u want....and i say we don't gonna care u...ok....bye...." saying thus she dragged hasi and payal to the class. Diya, one of the seniors decided teach them a lesson for their arrogance as it was the first time she was talked to by someone like that and she especially hated that boyish girl....whoever she is.They heaved a sigh of relief as the lecturer has not yet come.."Thank goodness....we are not late",said payal. They searched for a place but saw three places at different benches and sighed for their luck. "Its ok guys, lets ask for a bench at the break....ok" said payal. They sat and the lecturer, sister nivya, a woman who has a divine look entered the class. S he smiled at the class and said"Good Morning students, Think u are comfortable here and as its the first class today lets introduce ourselves. I'll start it from me, my name is sister Nivya and i teach u English. Then the first girl in the left row start introducing urself....""My name is priya ma'am............." after a long introduction of all of them in the class their came a break for lunch. They decided to go to the canteen...but hasi didn't accept for that."sorry yaar,i'll not come....I'm afraid about the seniors and at the morning this dimp nearly fought with them.....its not nice...i dont like it" "Hey bunny, why do u feel for that...i did the rite thing....ok don't blame me for that...y do get afraid for that small incident...If it happens again i'll certainly show my strength to them. Who is she to warn us or something???" saying thus dimp made hasi to stand and caught het like a small girl in her arms. They went to the canteen but hasi looked time and again around the cantten for them and she refused to go alone anywhere. They talked many new freshers there and introduced themselves. After that they heard an announcement for all the students to come to the seminar hall. Their there was a welcome speech for the freshers and after about two hours of speech by all the lecturers the students were said to disperse and meet tomorrow at the same hall by 9.30am "cool guys....lets go to pizza hut yaar....am hungry and starving for food. what do u say payal and bunny????...what about a chicken burger????"Hasini looked angrily at her"U idiot...what do u think of urself...u dimp u know i don't eat non-veg.....i'll hav a veg pizza and chocolate coffee...what about u payal????" "Hey guys u know my situation at my house...... so i'm sorry buddies" saying she started her bike looking at the watch."hey do u know u are now 20 yrs old and u know what to do.....y can't u tell this ur dad yaar...doesn't he understand????". "u know abt that dimp....y do always ask her that and make har regret.....bye dear and take care"

F.R.I.E.N.D.S

" bye mamma,am leaving" " yes....take care guddi" payal, a typical modern city girl started her pink pep+ {pink se panga mat lena!!!!} and went away. She is just a fresh grad. and got admission in MIT for her PG. But she denied it simply for her payal gang [PG!!!]. Payal has two good friends Dimple and Hasini. "hey c'mon baba how much time will u take"......she banged her horn like a mad thing "first dat itself late kya"...."dimple.....hasi...what r udoin in that room. come on" "ya....ya...coming......". They ran like rajadhani express to the gate. Dimple, a tom boyish girl, who naturally thinks that girls are farer in everything than boys. Its not that she don't likes boys but she never cares them. Hasini,a typical brahmin girl, who is very calm, quiet and sensitive both physically and mentally. Both of them live in the same room as their parents are far away. Its a mystery how these became friends...cos theres not one single day that they quarrel but theres not a single nite that they sleep without saying sorry!!!! Dimple took out her racer bike (boy thing!!!) and Hasi sat behind payal. "what r we waiting for??? lets go guys" saying dimple shoots like a rocket. Its natural that she always wears jeans, spa and a coat to cover that. She feels cool in it whatever the weather it is!!! After a long journey for ten minutes in the hyderabadi traffic , they entered their new college....a girls college in which they joined their MBA in biotechnology. "awesome place yaar...i like this atmosphere guys....lets rock the remaining two years....what do u ppl say...ha...????" exclaims dimple pretty does she know that their journey in life starts here!!!!

India is winning the world , softly

India is being feted as a soft superpower. DT explores what makes India the next big thing on the world stage. Be it Indian tycoons taking over international giants or foreign universities lauding our politicians or Hollywood superstars shooting in the country... India seems to be the flavour everywhere. It is being feted as an emerging economy with a pool of superlative talent at its disposal and as the next big thing on the world stage. But it is the country’s achievements in the arena of education, art, culture, entertainment etc. that has given it the status of a ‘soft superpower’. Global recognition : Indian writer Kiran Desai is the youngest woman ever to win the Booker Prize. Amitabh Bachchan has been honoured by the French government with the country's prestigious Legion d'Honneur award. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was honoured with a Doctorate of Law by the Cambridge University. Yoga exponent Baba Ramdev has been invited by the United Nations to deliver a lecture on poverty alleviation. Forbes has ranked India-born Indra Nooyi as the fourth-most powerful woman in the world while Congress chief Sonia Gandhi is at 13th position. ICICI Bank deputy managing director Chanda Kochhar, HSBC India’s CEO Naina Lal Kidwai and Biocon head Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw , have been named among the world's 50 most powerful businesswomen by Fortune magazine. India cricket team captain Rahul Dravid has been nominated in four categories, including Cricketer of the Year, for the annual International Cricket Council (ICC) awards. And there’s more... More than 30 Indian writers attended the Frankfurt Book Fair this October to woo world publishers. India was guest of honour at the October 4-8 fair. PIO Praveen Kumar has taken over as president of the British Medical Association. Karan Johar was a judge at the Miss World pageant that took place in September 2006. Deepa Mehta’s Water, based on the plight of Benaras widows, is Canada’s official Oscar entry this year. Manavjit Singh Sandhu was ranked 1st in the world shooting championship in July 2006.

do u WASH ur hands??????

Remember Ignaz Semmelweis? Of course you don't. But you're in his debt nonetheless, because it was Dr. Semmelweis who first demonstrated over a hundred years ago that routine handwashing can prevent the spread of disease. "Dr. Semmelweis worked in a hospital in Vienna whose maternity patients were dying at such an alarming rate that they begged to be sent home," said Julie Gerberding, M.D., director of CDC's Hospital Infections Program. "Most of those dying had been treated by student physicians who worked on cadavers during an anatomy class before beginning their rounds in the maternity ward."
Because the students didn't wash their hands between touching the dead and the living--handwashing was an unrecognized hygienic practice at the time--pathogenic bacteria from the cadavers regularly were transmitted to the mothers via the students' hands. "The result was a death rate five times higher for mothers who delivered in the hospital than for mothers who delivered at home" said Dr. Gerberding.
"This was the beginning of infection control," Dr. Gerberding said. "It was really a landmark achievement, not just in healthcare settings, but in public health in general because today the value of handwashing in preventing disease is recognized in the community, in schools, in child care settings, and in eating establishments."
Healthcare specialists generally cite handwashing as the single most effective way to prevent the transmission of disease. "This is one healthcare infection control measure that has successfully spread throughout the community," she said. "Good hygiene in general, and sterilization and disinfection in particular, are other standards that began largely in hospitals and have become widely used elsewhere. And we're always looking for others."
"It's an astonishing amount of knowledge and expertise gathered in a single building," she said. "But for all our expertise and the tremendous advances we've made in technology and new treatments, we constantly remind ourselves of the basic in infection control...wash your hands!"
In the healthcare setting, handwashing can prevent potentially fatal infections from spreading from patient to patient, and from patient to healthcare worker and vice-versa. In the home, it can prevent infectious diseases such as diarrhea and hepatitis A from spreading from family member to family member and, sometimes, throughout a community. "The basic rule in the hospital is wash your hands between patients," said Dr. Gerberding. "In the home, it's wash them before preparing food, after changing diapers, and after using the bathroom."
. Another 50 years would pass before the importance of handwashing as a preventive measure would be widely accepted by the medical profession. "But it's the standard now," said Dr. Gerberding. "And we can't begin to count the thousands upon thousands of lives that have been saved because of Dr. Semmelweis's discovery." Unrecognized for the most part by the general public, Dr. Semmelweis is firmly entrenched in medical lore as a pioneer who made one of the greatest contributions in the history of public health. In hospitals and homes throughout the world, the simple and inexpensive measure of handwashing continues to serve as a bulwark against disease.
CDC Says "Prevent Contamination" by Hand: CDC cites five common household scenarios in which disease-causing germs can be transmitted by contaminated hands.
Hands to food: germs are transmitted from unclean hands to food, usually by an infected food preparer who didn't handwash after using the toilet. The germs are then passed to those who eat the food.
Infected infant to hands to other children: during diaper changing, germs are passed from an infant with diarrhea to the hands of a parent; if the parent doesn't immediately wash his or her hands before handling another child, the germs that cause diarrhea are passed to the second child.
Food to hands to food: germs are transmitted from raw, uncooked foods, such as chicken, to hands; the germs are then transferred to other foods, such as salad. Cooking the raw food kills the initial germs, but the salad remains contaminated.
Nose, mouth, or eyes to hands to others: germs that cause colds, eye infections, and other illnesses can spread to the hands by sneezing, coughing, or rubbing the eyes and then can be transferred to other family members or friends.
Food to hands to infants: germs from uncooked foods are transferred to hands and then to infants. If a parent handling raw chicken, for example, doesn't wash his or her hands before tending to an infant, they could transfer germs such as salmonella from the food to the infant. Handwashing can prevent the transfer of germs in all five of these scenarios. CDC recommends vigorous scrubbing with warm, soapy water for at least 15 seconds.

Moms are often filled with kind words of wisdom. But when it comes to food and nutrition, is their advice always scientifically accurate? My granny always says that carrots are gud for eyes....i thought she was telling this just to make me eat coz of my shortsightedness. But later i came to know what she told was 100% true and some amazing facts for u which i read. Carrots are good for your eyes: Granny was right! Carrots contain beta-carotene, a carotenoid pigment found in bright orange fruits and vegetables that is also a precursor for vitamin A. Vitamin A plays a major role in eyesight by preventing night blindness and helping with the maintenance of a healthy, clear cornea (outer membrane of the eye). Carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, mango, cantaloupe, and apricots are all rich sources of beta-carotene. Carrots also contain a compound called lutein, an antioxidant almost always paired with zeaxanthin. Studies have shown that eating foods rich in lutein and zeaxanthin can increase the pigment density in the macula-and greater pigment density means better retina protection, and a lower risk of macular degeneration. Other lutein rich foods include kale, spinach, Swiss chard and other dark leafy greens

Amazing but Facts about Carrots:

In 2005, a poll of 2,000 people revealed that the carrot was Britain's third favourite culinary vegetable.

Carrots are noted in popular culture for being the favorite food of rabbits, and are also associated with fictional rabbits such as Bugs Bunny. However, rabbits finding carrots in a garden are more likely to eat the exposed greens than to dig up the root.

For the purposes of the European Union's "Council Directive 2001/113/EC of 20 December 2001 relating to fruit jams, jellies and marmalades and sweetened chestnut purée intended for human consumption" carrots can be defined as a fruit as well as a vegetable. This is because carrot jam is a Portuguese delicacy.

A common urban legend is that carrots aid a human being's night vision. It is believed that disinformation introduced in 1940 by John "Cat's Eyes" Cunningham during the Battle of Britain was an attempt to cover up the discovery and use of radar technologies . It reinforced existing German folklore and helped to encourage children to eat the vegetable.

Lack of Vitamin A can, however, cause poor vision and can be restored by adding Vitamin A back into the diet.

The world's largest carrot was grown in Palmer, Alaska, by John Evans in 1998, weighing 8.614 kg (18.99 pounds).

The world's largest carrot statue is located in Ohakune, New Zealand.[5]

Carrots are traditionally used as noses when building snowmen.

The comedian and entertainer "Carrot Top" is named after a carrot because of his bright orange hair.

Susan Dey, of Partridge Family fame, was said to have eaten so many carrots during her bout with anorexia and bulimia that her skin literally was tinged with orange - a condition called carotenosis. [6]

Holtville, California holds an annual festival devoted entirely to the carrot.

" EDUCATION IS THE MANIFESTATION OF KNOWLEDGE WHICH LIES IN US "
Every one of the 20th century Indian leaders of note have acknowledged his influence, from Gandhi to Subash Bose. The first governor general of independent India, Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, once observed that "Vivekananda saved Hinduism." According to Subhas Chandra Bose, Vivekananda "is the maker of modern India" and for Mohandas Gandhi, Vivekananda's influence increased his "love for his country a thousand fold." Gandhi, who also strived for a lot of reform in Hinduism himself, said: Swami Vivekananda's writings need no introduction from anybody. They make their own irresistible appeal. Many years after his death, Rabindranath Tagore (a prominent member of the Brahmo Samaj) had said: If you want to know India, study Vivekananda. In him everything is positive and nothing negative. National Youth Day in India is by way of commemorating him held on his birthday, January 12. Swami Vivekananda is widely considered to have inspired India's freedom struggle movement. His writings inspired a whole generation of freedom fighters including Aurobindo Ghose and Bagha Jatin. Vivekananda was the brother of the extremist revolutionary, Shri Bhupendranath Dutta. Subhash Chandra Bose one of the most prominent figures in Indian independence movement said, I cannot write about Vivekananda without going into raptures. Few indeed could comprehend or fathom him even among those who had the privilege of becoming intimate with him. His personality was rich, profound and complex... Reckless in his sacrifice, unceasing in his activity, boundless in his love, profound and versatile in his wisdom, exuberant in his emotions, merciless in his attacks but yet simple as a child, he was a rare personality in this world of ours. Aurobindo Ghosh considered Vivekananda as his spiritual mentor. While in Alipore Jail, Sri Aurobindo used to be visited by Swami Vivekananda in his meditation and be guided by him in yoga. Vivekananda was a soul of puissance if ever there was one, a very lion among men, but the definitive work he has left behind is quite incommensurate with our impression of his creative might and energy. We perceive his influence still working gigantically, we know not well how, we know not well where, in something that is not yet formed, something leonine, grand, intuitive, upheaving that has entered the soul of India and we say, "Behold, Vivekananda still lives in the soul of his Mother and in the souls of her children. --Sri Aurobindo--1915 in Vedic Magazine. Vivekananda inspired Jamshedji Tata to set up Indian Institute of Science, one of India's finest Institutions. Abroad, he had some interactions with Max Mueller. Nikola Tesla was one of those influenced by the Vedic philosophy teachings of the Swami Vivekananda.
This pious disciple of , made his guru's dreams come true.He taught the indian youth "Strength lies not in the body but in your souls".His quotes are familiar to everyone and whoever follows his path has success in their hands.

JUST MAKE A DIFFERENCE.....

A man was walking down the beach at sunset. As, he walked along, hesaw another man in the distance. He noticed this man kept leaningdown, picking up something and throwing it out into the water, againand again. As, he approached even closer, he noticed that the man was picking up starfish that had been washed up on the beach. He wasthrowing them back into the water, one by one.
Puzzled, he approached the man and said,"Good Evening. I was wondering what you are doing."
"I'm throwing these starfish back into the ocean.
You see, it's lowtide and all these starfish have been washed up onto the shore. If, Idon't throw them back into the ocean, they'll die up here from lack ofoxygen."
"But, there must be thousands of starfish on this beach. You can'tpossible get to all of them. And, don't you realize this is probablyhappening on hundreds of beaches all up and down this coast. Can't yousee that you can't possibly make a difference?"
The man bent down and picked up yet another starfish, and threw itback into the ocean. With a smile he replied, "Made a difference tothat one !!!

SOUTH INDIAN CULTUIRE

South Indian culture refers to the culture of the four southern most states of India, namely Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. South Indian culture though with its visible differences forms an important part of the Indian culture. The South Indian Culture is essentially the celebration of the eternal universe through the celebration of the beauty of the body and motherhood. It is exemplified through its dance, clothing, and sculptures. Traditional clothing: South Indian women traditionally wear the sari while the men wear a type of sarong, which could be either a white dhoti or a colourful lungi with typical batik patterns. The sari, being an unstitched drape, enhances the shape of the wearer while only partially covering the midriff. In Indian philosophy, the navel of the Supreme Being is considered as the source of life and creativity.[1] Hence by tradition, the stomach and the navel is to be left unconcealed, though the philosophy behind the costume has largely been forgotten[1]. This makes the realization of sharira-mandala, where in Angikam bhuvanam yasya (the body as the world) unites with the shaarira-mandala (the whole universe), as expressed in the Natyashastra.[1] These principles of the sari, also hold for other forms of drapes, like the lungi or mundu or panchey (a white lungi with colourful silk borders in kannada) worn by men.[2].The lungi can be draped over clockwise or anticlockwise and can be tied at the back or fixed just along the waist line. It's sometimes lifted till knee and tied at the waist leisurely or just held in hand to speed up walking. In parts of north karnataka men wear kachche panchey where it is tied at back by taking it between legs.Similar pattern is seen in women. All over the peninsular coastal region men wear coloured lungis and women wear sari in a way tying it at back. Cuisine: Rice is the staple diet, with fish being an integral component of coastal South Indian meals. Coconut is an important ingredient in Kerala and costal part of Karnataka of South India, whereas the cuisine in Andhra Pradesh is characterized by the delicious pickles, spicy aromatic curries and the generous use of chilli powder. Dosa, Idli, Uttapam etc are popular throughout the region. Coastal areas like the state of Kerala and the city of Mangalore are known for their seafood. South Indian coffee is generally quite robust, and coffee is a preferred drink throughout the Malabar region.
Music: The sophisticated Indian Classical Music of South India is known as Carnatic music (after Carnatic, the name by which south India was known in the earlier colonial days. Sarang Dev coined south indian classical music as karnatic Music). It includes sensuous rhythmic and structured music by composers such as Purandara Dasa, Tyagaraja, Dikshathar, Shyama Sasthri, and Swati Tirunal. The contemporary singer Dr. K. J. Yesudas is a cultural ambassador of Carnatic music. Dance: The South Indian culture is celebrated in the elaborate dance forms of South India - Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Theyyam, Ottamthullal, Oppana, Kerala Natanam, Mohiniaattam and Yakshagana. The Bharatanatyam expresses the celebration of beauty and the universe, through its tenets of having a perfectly erect posture, a straight and pout curving stomach, a well rounded and proportionate body mass- to the body structure, very long hair and curvaceous hips.[3] These tenets bring to life the philosophy of Natyashastra (the treatise on Dance by the sage Bharata), ‘Angikam bhuvanam yasya’ ((whose) body is the world).[1] This is elaborated in the araimandi posture, wherein the performer assumes a half sitting position with the knees turned sideways, with a very erect posture. In this fundamental posture of the Bharatanatyam dance, the distance between the head and the navel becomes equal to that between the earth and the navel. In a similar way the distance between the outstretched right arm to the outstretched left arm becomes equal to the distance between the head and the feet, thus representing the "Natyapurusha", the embodiment of life and creation.[1] Architecture and paintings: South India boasts of having two enchanting styles of rock architecture, the pure dravida style of Tamil Nadu and the Vesara style (also called Karnata dravida style) present in Karnataka. The inspirational temple sculptures of Hampi, Badami, Pattadakal, Aihole, Belur, Halebidu, Lakkundi, Shravanabelagola, Mahabalipuram, Tanjore, Madhuri and the mural paintings of Travancore and Lepakshi temples, also stand as a testament to South Indian culture. The paintings of Raja Ravi Varma are considered classic renditions of many a scenes of South Indian life and mythology. There are several examples of Dravidian mural paintings in the Mattancherry palace and the Shiva kshetram in Ettamanoor. South India is home, as of April 2006, to 5 of the 26 World Heritage listed sites in India.[4]. Sculptures and figurine: Sculptures became one of the finest medium of South Indian expression after the human form of dance. In this medium it was possible to etch the three dimensional form in time. The traditional South Indian sculptor starts his sculpture of the divinities from the navel which is always represented unclothed by the sari. A koshta or grid of the sculpture would show the navel to be right at the centre of the sculpture, representing the source of the union of the finite body and the infinite universe. Sculptures adorn many of the temples around the complexes and also inside them. They are also depiction of dance steps of various stylizations and have served to preserve dance forms and revive it.[5] Literature and philosophy: South India has a literary tradition reaching back over two thousand years. The first known literature of South India are the poetic Sangams, which were written in Tamil around two to one and a half thousand years ago. The Kannada classic Kavirajamarga, written in 850 CE by King Amoghavarsha I, makes references to Kannada literature of King Durvinita in early sixth century CE. Tamil Buddhist commentators of the tenth century CE, Nemrinatham makes references to Kannada literature of fourth century CE Distinct Malayalam and Telugu literary traditions developed in the following centuries. The artistic expressions of the South Indian people shows their admiration of the magnificence of nature and its rhythms. Some of the works include Silappadhikaram by Ilango Adigal, Tholkappiam written by Tholkappiar, Thiruvalluvar’s Thirukural and Kumaravyasa's Karnata Bharata Katamanjari and Pampa's Vikramarjuna Vijaya.. In South Indian literature and philosophy, women are considered very powerful. A married woman is regarded as auspicious, her shakti or mother-feminine power, protects and empowers her husband and their children. Contemporary Kannada writers have received seven Jnanapith awards which is the highest for any Indian language. Some of the big names in the contemporary South Indian literature includes Kuvempu, Shivarama Karanth, S.L. Bhyrappa, D.R. Bendre, U.R. Ananthamurthy and Girish Karnad. Motion pictures: Movie making has emerged as an important platform in South India. Over the years movies have served to portray the cultural changes, trends, aspirations and developments experienced by the people. Some motion picture classics like Nammukku paarkkaan munthiri thoppukal (1986) by Padmarajan, Adi Shankara (1984) by director G V Iyer, and Perumthachan (1990) by Ajayan have gained worldwide acclaim for their masterful depiction of the worldview of the South Indian people
